Acknowledgement of Country/First Peoples
(An act towards reconciliation)

For thousands of years Indigenous people have walked
in this land, on their own country.
Their relationship with the land is at the centre of their lives.

We acknowledge the (NN) People of the (NN) Nation, past, present, emerging,
and their stewardship of this land throughout the ages.

First Peoples Statement to the Nation 2017 is called “Uluru Statement from the Heart”

And we recognise and give thanks that we humans
are creatures of the Earth living in the ecosystem

Centering Silence
 Centering silence has its roots in the earliest of monastic traditions of the ‘desert Fathers (abbas)/Mothers (ammas)’ 
 and the Christian mystic tradition… Relaxing into ‘quietness’ creates the space for deep listening and draws you into yourself

Now, in shared quietness, we shall listen to the wisdom
of our inner hearts and minds as we join in this time 
of silence and meditation.

Let us give thanks for our personal journeys…
sometimes long and hard journey...

Let us seek forgiveness for times when our fears
have outweighed our love...

Let us be mindful of the greed which so often rules us...

Let us remember, in silence... and wonder.

If I proclaim the news about God's Anointed,
that's not something for me to be proud of.
I was compelled to do it.
I would be in terrible trouble if I refused to proclaim that news.

But if I do this involuntarily,
it is because I have been entrusted with a responsibility.

So what is my reward for this?
That when I preach I get to offer the news that I proclaim free of charge,
and make no use of the legitimate claims to which
proclaiming this news entitles me.

Although I am free from servitude to anyone,
I have made myself the servant of everyone
in order to win over as many as I can...

To the weak I behaved as if I were weak,
so that I could win over the weak.
I have accommodated myself in all sorts of ways to all sots of people
so that by all these means I might save some.

I do all of this for the sake of God's world-transforming news,
so that I might have a share in its benefits.

On leaving the synagogue, Jesus went with James and John
straight to the house of Simon and Andrew.

Now Simon’s mother-in-law had gone to bed with fever,
and they told Jesus about her straightaway.

Jesus went to her, took her by the hand and helped her up.
And the fever left and she began to minister to them.

That evening, at sunset, they brought to Jesus all who were sick and those
who were possessed with devils.
The whole town came crowding round the door,
and Jesus cured many who were suffering
from diseases of one kind or another.

Jesus also cast out many devils, but would not allow them to speak, 
because they knew who Jesus was. 

In the morning, long before dawn, Jesus got up and left the house,
and went out to a lonely place and prayed there.

Simon and the others set out in search of Jesus,
and when they found him, they said, 'Everybody is looking for you.'

Jesus answered,
'Let us go elsewhere, to the neighbouring towns, so that I can preach there too,
because that is why I came.'

And Jesus went all through Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and casting out devils.
